À propos de Nice was Jean Vigo ́s first film and had Boris Kauffman as the cameraman. With realist, lyrical and political features, this silent short essay film is an ironic montage of images from hidden cameras in Nice. It has the attempt of uncovering the Mediterranean resort town reality, showing its poverty and social inequality underneath the luxurious and gloomy surface. Therefore, Vigo merges images from gleeful tourists, the carnival and images of poverty. In the end, the film shows workers like the Soviets and flaming furnaces, revealing the director ́s sympathy with the revolution and his pursuit of convincing the viewer.
