Alain Resnais

Resnais ́s career commenced right after World War II, as he produced groundbreaking and wide- ranging documentaries and film essays before starting on narrative features in the fifties. He gets visibility with his film Last Year at Marienbad, revealing the approach that much of his later work would take: experimental and flexible narratives that discompose the classical ́s cinema linearity, attempting to communicate the natural subjectivity and instability of the human mind. One of the pioneers of the essay film history trajectory, it served as inspiration to many other filmmakers. Night And Fog (1955) - maybe the most enshrined of his essay films - with its Jean Cayrol ́s narrative text, highlighted with mastery the theme of War and Remembrance, that became important themes to posterior essay films by directors like Harun Farocki, Marcel Orhul or Paul Yules. !
