Becky Hourigan - March 1

The architectural salvage exchange warehouse is extended along the canal to include storage for the salvage collection along with

workshops for the restoration of the items. Public spaces and routes are integrated within these key active areas allowing visitors to

experience the noises, atmosphere and processes of architectural salvage The proposal as in semester 1 aims to reconnect the road and canal, using existing and new materials/ structures. To re-identify this abandoned space between the road and canal the existing building has been selectively de-constructed with new elements placed at juxtaposition. In doing so the building has been reconfi gured to create unusual routes and spaces within it, which otherwise would have not have been experienced. Visual and physical barriers have been strategically placed to direct the visitor through the workshops, allowing them to hear the activity within the workshop but only occasionally allowing them to view the space, and even then the view is obscured and partly hidden. This is aimed to intrigue the user pulling them in to the space further thus merging the road and canal routes together.
