Philip Lopate

 

 

 

Film critic, essayist, teacher, poet and fiction writer, Phillip Lopate was born in 1943, in New York. He brought great contributions to the study of the film essay on the last decades. From the analysis of the essay as a literary genre, he starts trying to examine its transference to cinematography, studying films of different filmmakers and developing a critic definition of what it is and what it is not a film essay.
