Thom Andersen was born in 1943, in Chicago. He is a film critic, teacher and a filmmaker and it ́s most known for his essay films, specially the award winner Los Angeles Plays Itself. His essay films identify cinema as an instrument of political thinking and as an archive of cultural memory, therefore, he attempts to uncover the vanishing history of a city. As Andersen sympathises with the Neo-Realism, he believes that the best movies are based in reality, rather than fiction.
