Woody Allen

Filmmaker, writer, actor and musician, Allan Steward Konisberg was born in 1935, in New York. Although it is not considered a true essayist, maybe his mastery relies - as written by Phillip Lopate - in the transference of some essayism into his fiction films. One of the most frequent essayist aspects of his films is their autobiographical character, reinforced by his participation as an actor and the clear relation between his personal experience and personality with the character ́s. Besides that, there are a lot of moments - in movies like Annie Hall and Whatever Works - in which his characters talk directly to the spectator, similarly to the dialogue between the literary essayist and the reader.
