This may be Woody Allen ́s movie that presents more essayistic aspects. Specially because it is possible to set a parallel between the characters and the actors that represent them. The main character, Alvy Singer, it is represented by Allen himself and has a similar life story than the director, like his nickname, his experience growing up in a jewish family in Brooklin, his strict mother and his work experience as a stand up comedian. It is also possible to set a relation between Diane Keaton and her character (Alvy ́s romantic couple), Annie Hall. Diane ́s Keaton nickname among her friends is Annie and her real surname is Hall. The autobiographical character is reinforced by the way the narrative unfolds. The film stars with Alvy ́s presentation of himself in first person to the spectator and it develops like a free-wheeling, stream-of-conciousness story. Another essayistic characteristic are the moments in which the character talks directly to the spectator, like in the part where Alvy is annoyed by a guy in the theatre queue and complain about him to the viewer.
